Turkish Military Map This 1941 military map of the dog bayazit / Ararat region shows the area on the left (Arzap-Kazan) where the ark was anchored "at rest" for several months, as the water was receding. Many anchor stones are found here, near the modern village of Kazan. Prior to 1941 this village was called "Arzap" which in Turkish and Shemetic means "cling to the earth" (eretz-zab), and that is precisely what the ark did over that location from the "17th day of the 7th month" until sometime after "the 1st day of the 10th month." The enlarged rectangle on the right side shows the location of the mountain of the Kurds Cudi Dagi some 12-14 miles east, where the ark of Noah came to final rest and the city of Mesha / Naxuan was constructed by he survivors and their descendants.
